ABSTRACT

Objective To discuss the feasibility of Mongolian medicine pulse diagnosis in assessment of the disease situation of acute critically ill patients. Methods The clinical data of acute critically ill patients admitted in the Department of Emergency of Inner Mongolia International Mongolian Medical Hospital from December 2015 to December 2017 were retrospectively analyzed, and the role of Mongolian medicine pulse diagnosis in the evaluation of disease situations of patients with acute critical illness was observed. Results The improved early warning score (MEWS) at admission was carried out for all the patients in the Emergency Department of this hospital, 996 critically ill patients with their MEWS score ≥ 5 scores in accord with the inclusion criteria were allowed to undergo the Mongolian medicine pulse diagnosis, and of them, 654 patients showed specific changes in pulse condition. Shock appeared rapid pulse, microphygmia in pulse diagnosis of Mongolian medicine, severe anemia appeared the slippery pulse and rapid pulse in pulse diagnosis of Mongolian medicine, severe arrhythmia appeared rapid pulse and slow pulse in pulse diagnosis of Mongolian medicine, acute myocardial infarction appeared rapid pulse, weak pulse and slow pulse in pulse diagnosis of Mongolian medicine, insufficiency of heart function appeared rapid pulse and weak pulse in pulse diagnosis of Mongolian medicine, hypertension complicated with cerebral hemorrhage with forceful pulse and pulsus pulse are all suggestive of critical condition. Conclusions The specific changes in pulse condition of patients with acute critical illness in Mongolian medicine are helpful to the assessment of the patient's condition. This method can also be used as one of the tools for rapid assessment of disease situation in critical patients before going to hospital or in the hospital.

Geiwang-9 is a traditional prescription which is a frequently used powder in traditional Mongolian medicine.It has been adopted in the treatment of liver diseases with remarkable therapeutic effects.In recent years,many studies have made progress with quality control,pharmacology,pharmacological effects and clinical application of Geiwang-9.This paper reviewed the research progress on clinical applications and experimental studies of Geiwang-9 based on literatures on Geiwang-9 in recent 20 years.It provided a beneficial reference for further research and broadened the clinical application of Geiwang-9.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To prepare nHA/gelatin porous scaffold and to evaluate its physical and chemical properties and biocompatibility.@*METHODS@#We used nano-powders of HA and gelatin to prepare 3D porous composite scaffold by freeze-drying technique, and used scanning electron microscope, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and universal testing machine to characterize the composite material. Osteoblasts were primarily cultured, and the third-passage osteoblasts were co-cultured with the composite material. The cell adhesion and morphology were examined under scanning electron microscope. The cell viability analysis was performed by MTT assay, and the alkaline phosphatase activity was measured with alkaline phosphatase kit.@*RESULTS@#Scanning electron microscope showed that the scaffold possessed a 3-dimensional interconnected homogenous porous structure with pore sizes ranging from 150 to 400 μm. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy showed that the composite material had a strong chemical bond between the inorganic phase and organic phase. The scaffold presented the compressive strength of (3.28 ± 0.51) MPa and porosities of (80.6 ± 4.1)%. Composite materials showed features of had good biocompatibility. Mouse osteoblasts were well adhered and spread on the materials. The grade of the cell toxicity ranged from I to II. On the 5th and 7th day the proliferative rate of osteoblasts on scaffolds in the composite materials was significantly higher than that in the control group. The activity of alkaline phosphatase was obviously higher than that in the control group on Day 1 and 3.@*CONCLUSION@#Nano-hydroxyapatite and gelatin in certain proportions and under certain conditions can be prepared into a composite biomimetic porous scaffolds with high porosity and three-dimensional structure using freeze-drying method. The scaffold shows good biocompatibility with mouse osteoblasts and may be a novel scaffolds for bone tissue engineering.

ABSTRACT

Two-day-old specific pathogen-free (SPF) chickens were divided into two groups. Group I was inoculated orally with fowl adenovirus VIII (FAV-VIII). Group II served as a negative control. Chickens were investigated at various days post-inoculation (dpi) by flow cytometric analysis for changes in T lymphocyte subpopulations in immune system and blood. In the thymus, CD3+ T lymphocytes were increased at 25 dpi, with significant increases in the FAV infected noted at 1, 12, 20dpi (p<0.05). This was accompanied by a corresponding increase of CD4+ and CD8+ T lymphocytes. In the spleen, CD3+ and CD4+ T lymphocytes were increased significantly at 30 dpi (p<0.01) whereas CD8+ and TCR γ δ+ T lymphocytes were decreased at 1 (p<0.05), 30 dpi (p<0.01). An increase of CD3+, CD4+ and CD8+ T lymphocytes was noticed in peripheral blood, and accompanied by a decrease of TCR γ δ+ T lymphocytes. These results demonstrated that infection with FAV-VIII causes significant fluctuations in T lymphocyte subpopulations in thymus, blood and spleen. It can be concluded that an infection with FAV-VIII has profound effects on the immune system, especially on cell mediated immune competency.
